Being Comfortable with “Plan B”

How many of you brides and grooms are looking forward to having an outdoor ceremony?  Being surrounded by nature, blue sky backgrounds, and serene country settings are very popular.  However, we all know how unpredictable weather can be, especially in Kansas City, Missouri!  So as you start to research and visit venues that offer outdoor weddings, make sure you discuss the “Plan B” – don’t stick your head in the sand and convince yourself that it will be 78 degrees and sunny on your wedding day.  It is so important to know the “Plan B” AND to be comfortable with it!  You can change your wedding colors, you can change your dinner menu, but no matter what, you cannot change the weather…so plan for a rainy day and if you get 78 degrees and sunny, consider it a bonus!

Alan and I have DJed in many many venues where the “Plan B” is using the dance floor area as the alter area and the guests sit at their dinner tables to watch the ceremony.  Unfortunately, to the bride and the guests, this plan “feels” like a plan B – most brides would not choose that scenario as their plan A.  Also, it usually takes the “walk down the aisle” away from the bride because generally, there is no aisle amongst the round dinner tables.

As Alan and I designed Berry Acres, we considered our experiences and thought back to the numerous weddings where weather was in-climate.  We wanted to offer our brides a more functional “Plan B”.  The Chapel Room at Berry Acres is a fantastic backup plan in case an outdoor ceremony needs to be held inside.  This room is completely separate from the reception area, can seat up to 380 guests, and has a nice 50 foot long aisle for the bride to walk down.

Rain is not the only type of weather that can ruin a wedding.  Have you ever attended an outdoor ceremony where it was 78 degrees and sunny and the WIND was blowing 40 miles an hour?  Alan and I have played music for many windy ceremonies and we wanted to offer yet another type of “Plan B” for our brides.  On the North side of our venue, we are creating a garden area that will be a beautiful site for weddings regardless of the weather, but in the event of a windy day, our building asks like a huge wind break and there is generally nothing but a light breeze on that side of the building.  So not only is the design of our garden important, but a lot of thought went into the location of the garden.

A Sprint to the Finish Line!

Ready…..Set…..Go!!!     Our running began on June 1st of 2013 and it seems like it wasn’t that long ago, but if you look around Berry Acres and all the work that has been done since June, it feels like a life time ago.

We are very excited about hosting our first wedding in 17 days! As we near the finish line, there are just a few more things to finish up and then the fun stuff begins!  The REALLY fun stuff like decorating, and setting tables and chairs, and greeting guests, and  providing a beautiful environment to celebrate two people and their love for each other.

The renovation is nearly complete!  Sinks, partitions, and doors for the restrooms are going in today and tomorrow.  Then we need to get the bar area finished.  The parking lot should be done my Monday – yeah!  Pray there is no more rain this week!

We had a small “Bridal Open House” where brides could get a sneak peek of Berry Acres.  Here are a couple photos.  Enjoy!Berry Farms2014_005 (Custom) Berry Farms2014_007 (Custom) Berry Farms2014_008 (Custom) Berry Farms2014_009 (Custom)
