How This Kansas City Wedding Venue Came To Be

Alan and I were married in 2004. At that time, Alan was a wedding DJ with over 10 years of experience and I was a general manager for Marriott. It was apparent from the beginning that we both enjoyed taking care of people. Alan always encouraged me to become a DJ too. Before I knew it, we were both out with our sound systems and light shows DJing weddings all over the Kansas City area.

Every weekend we were off to different venues. Often after events, we’d share our experiences with each other regarding the specific venues - what worked and what could have been better. Before long it was evident that our long-term goal was to take what we had learned and incorporate it into our own design and ultimately our own wedding venue.

We had a dream. I can’t tell you how many times we would talk about what it would take to start our own venue. How much would it cost to buy land and build a building? Where should it be located? How do we take what we have learned and build into the venue? What about catering, sound systems, and lighting? The list went on, but it was fun dreaming!

In 2013, God answered our prayers and we were able to purchase a perfect tract of land and a beautiful barn - a previous home to Clydesdales. Instantly, we had that blank canvas for our ideas and Berry Acres was born. Alan is the visionary in the family and integrated our ideas and experiences into our new venue. Berry Acres was ultimately designed and built specifically to give every couple the perfect wedding day.

We can’t believe that we are so blessed with such a beautiful venue and are so excited to share it with you!

Angela Berry

Angela is a co-owner of Berry Acres. She is the face and voice that will be present throughout the wedding planning process and on the wedding day. Angela is the facilitator of your dreams! She helps to plan and execute every detail of the special day while adding a flair of fun with her MCing at the reception. Angela’s passion for Berry Acres and all that she does, translates into a wonderful, full-service experience for wedding parties, transforming the relationship from client to friend.

Alan Berry

Alan is a co-owner of Berry Acres and also wears many hats. He DJs, MCs, keeps the landscape beautiful and maintains the facility. Alan often pops into tours in his work pants and grease-stained shirt to say hi. At other times, he is happy to get spiffed up for wedding festivities and treat the bride and groom like royalty, catering to their every need while making them laugh. If a bride has a dream concept for her wedding day, Alan’s visionary talents make it a reality.

BK has been with Berry Acres since day one! He is an award-winning chef who has been cooking for over 30 years. From American Royal BBQ, heading up a restaurant at the Missouri State Fair, owning his own restaurant and bar in Odessa to now impressing our couples and their guests at every wedding - BK makes folks happy all over the state with his food! He offers Berry Acres a customizable wedding menu and has received raving reviews from all our brides and grooms.

Emma joined the Berry Acres family in the summer of 2021. She thoroughly enjoys coordinating the weddings, setting the room beautifully, assisting Abigail in the office and she is great at making Instagram Reels & Tik Toks! She has one of the sweetest spirits and loves being immersed in all things weddings. You might be lucky enough to see Emma's smiling face assisting Angela on your wedding day.

JJ is the heart and soul of our Berry Acres family. She has been with the venue since the beginning and is at almost every single wedding. This mama bear takes care of us like we are her own. She manages the banquet staff while making everyone feel welcome, fed and cared for every time they walk in the doors to work an event. Without her loving ways, Berry Acres just wouldn't be the same.

Judy

Judy is the lady who takes wonderful care of the indoor flowers. She recently retired from all the outdoor landscaping, but Judy is still very diligent about watering and making our greenery look beautiful! The venue just wouldn’t be the same without her passion for gardening and her loving touch.

Kelli with previous greenhouse experience, is the ideal fit for such a job. She tends to the outdoor flowers, keeping Berry Acres colorful and pristine! She thoroughly enjoys a day spent in nature. If you see Kelli outdoors with her hat and a watering hose in her hands, be sure to thank her for all that she does.

Event Staff

Our event staff includes kitchen workers, bartenders, servers and a bussing staff. These wonderful, kind hearted people have jobs during the week and come to work at Berry Acres on the weekends because they too love weddings, enjoy taking care of people and appreciate the family-style atmosphere.
