“Cottage Core” Themed Styled Shoot

February 18th, 2024 - I wanted to pick a theme that would be able to inspire our upcoming brides of a new theme they could do for their wedding day. A style that looks great in our space at Berry Acres with all the colors and furniture pieces we have going on. With this particular look, we were able to pull in all our greenery and plants.

For the bride’s bouquet, I wanted plenty of greenery as well with pieces hanging down creating a falling effect- a less “clean” look. Wild Hill Florals created a stunning color scheme that matched our vibe perfectly with ivory, whites, tans, and light pink.

We had plenty of candlesticks on the head table and added bows to the green tinted Jameson bottles we had saved and washed for the candles to be placed in. We tied in the “cottage” theme with wicker placemats under the vintage chinaware for the newlyweds. These items were from Polka Dots rentals inventory. To pull in the earthy look, we chose gold silverware.

For the model’s dress, I picked two dresses without lace. For the majority of the shoot, she wore a sleeveless tulle fabric dress with so many layers to add texture. The under layer was an off white, almost gray /pink hue. The “reception” dress was shorter and played into a more cleaner satin look we are also seeing many brides choosing. The sleeves on this dress made it more fun with little white flowers embroidered into the puff sleeves. Opposed to a traditional dress shop experience, I decided to choose dresses from a local wedding photographer who also opened up a rental shop called Curated Gowns with several dresses and accessories. She also provided a “details box” that had many green colored items that paired well with the invites and overall theme.

For the stationary and invites, we had our lovely vendor friend, Katelyn with Letters by Maude create a design. Printed on ivory, almost discolored paper with more green florals and abstract lines, she designed the most winsome menu cards and darling full invitation suite.

A big thank you to one of our preferred vendors, Renata Zimmer with Renata Zimmer Photography for capturing the day so uniquely and having an eye for all the creative shots! She worked beautifully alongside Rachael with RW Photography. It was neat to see each photographer work together, capture the same moment through different eyes and to see how each one edited their gallery.

Davinshi Visuals was the videography company I decided to ask to help capture the shoot day and boy did they deliver! They have since created a couple videos. Each one crafted beautifully, making the sunset pop and fitting wonderfully with the music selected.

Special thanks to one of my personal good friends, Katherine Elaine Johnson HMUA. Unfortunately we had our original hair and makeup gal back out on us 3 days before the shoot. The day before the shoot, Kat was doing a little wine sip and spa day for her friends and clients of Monat hair products so I decided to go- we got to chatting and Kat said she was available for shoot day as she wanted to get more into working more wedding days. She saved the day!

Adding a little sweetness to the day, I asked both my friends at Sugar + Sky to come with cotton candy and Simply Frosted to create a little cake for the bride and groom. Brooklynn at Sugar + Sky pulled through with the most unique and yummy flavors while Simply Frosted created a cake that matched my vision perfectly!

We had a couple painters come and spend the day with us. Alicia Mau Art is bringing a new idea to the world of weddings by bringing cookies already frosted and then painting wedding guests as they stop by her booth. She uses edible paint but each cookie is done so well, you wouldn't want to eat it! She also paints wedding moments on canvas if that’s what you would prefer. Styled Elegantly chose to paint a scene from the styled shoot portion of the day during the open house so that brides were able to see her talents in action. Nita with Styled Elegantly also has content creation available through her business.

Our new Berry Acres rental which is a vintage phone booth added to the vintage theme beautifully. It was so fun to try it out with our models and allow them to leave a message for the next guests to pick up the phone! Couples can rent this phone as a guestbook “replacement”. How it works is you start by leaving an initial message for your guests to listen to when they pick up the phone when they arrive on wedding day, then they can follow the directions by clicking the button and leaving a message back. At the end of the night, we will then transfer everything on one download! Such a sweet thing. To listen to down the road on future anniversaries.

Derrick with Lucky Ice Co is a fellow Odessan. We were glad when he reached out to see if he could join us for the day and bring his specialty ice. Stamps are available for order to get a certain design or monogram on each cube of ice!

Dan Dan the Tailor Man was so fun to work with. He was able to work us into his busy schedule and find the best fitting suit for our model, Mitchell.

Bethany and Mitchell Hayes were such troopers through the day, maintaining stunning smiles and even coming back after a nap in the afternoon so we didn’t miss sunset pictures with the Shelby Cobra.
